PowerVR Tomb Raider UB Zip Files. Version 2.31
===============================================
Version 2.31, 30 March 1998. For Tomb Raider - Unfinished Business.

This version only supports Tomb Raider - Unfinished Business and
includes executables for both the PCX1 and PCX2 chips.
Other files are needed for the Full version of Tomb Raider or
the Demo version.

This version will now work with the Web Files. Previous version
will not work with the Web files as the format changed from the
CD files.

This version improves the starry sky on level 2 and can be used with
either the CD or the Web download of Unfinished Business.

This version will run under Windows 95 in a DOS session PROVIDED you
are running either driver as listed below:
    1. VideoLogic Apocalypse drivers v4.0.0a or later
    2. Matrox M3D drivers v4.0.0a or later
    3. PowerVR v4.0.0 or later

This version now works with Cyrix CPUs, and fixes problems with
800x600 modes on Matrox graphics cards.

Depending on your 2D graphics card it allows you to run at
various resolutions including 640x480, 800x600 and 1024x768.
Even if your 2D graphics board has only 2MB, you may still be
able to run at 1024x768 in Single Buffered mode. Linear MIP
mapping is supported and on the PCX2 bilinear filtering is also used.

Unzip the files in the Tomb Raider directory.

PowerVR Tomb Raider Installation. Version 2.31
===============================================
If you have installed version 2.0 or earlier of PowerVR Tomb Raider then
you will need to delete the files generated by UNIVBE before you start
this installation. Delete the files UVCONFIG.* and UNIVBE.DRV.

If you want to use the same directory for both Tomb Raider UB
and the Full version of Tomb Raider then you will have to upgrade the
PowerVR version of Tomb Raider to 2.1. Version 2.0 uses different UNIVBE
drivers.

After unzipping the files in the 'C:\TOMBRAID' directory you will find
included two shortcuts that are set-up already to run the PowerVR
version of Tomb Raider UB. Just double click the shortcut for your
PowerVR board.

If any of the following apply to you then you should read over
the additional install notes below.

- If you use a joystick with Tomb Raider
- If you wish to run in DOS (not in a Windows 95 DOS box), and do not
have your CD configured in CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT.
- If you have not yet configured the audio with the Tomb Raider
  SETUP.EXE program.
- If you have installed the Tomb Raider files to a directory other
  than 'C:\TOMBRAID'

PowerVR Tomb Raider Game Notes. Version 2.31
===============================================
The following Keys perform the following operations.
F1 - Decreases the screen resolution.
F2 - Increases the screen resolution.
F3 - Displays the current resolution, frames per second and
whether Single Buffered mode is on.
F4 - Toggles the PowerVR logo. (Full version only).
F8 - Toggles Singled Buffered mode. To switch mode
the graphics will be reset to the starting resolution
           of 640x480.
Z - Zoom the camera in.
X - Zoom the camera out.
All other keys operate as in the original game.

Single Buffered mode allows the use of high resolutions on
a 2MB 2D graphics board and it will improve the average frame rate.
However as the 3D image is being sent to the screen at the same time
as the monitor is displaying the image you may be able to see a line across
the screen from time to time. This is called 'Cut Line' and is normal in
a Single Buffered mode.

Note that the PowerVR version tries to keep as faithful as possible to
lighting and shading of the original Tomb Raider game. Some areas,
especially in later levels, are meant to be quite dark.

PowerVR Tomb Raider Install Notes. Version 2.31
===============================================
1. Running under windows.
-------------------------
This version will run under Windows 95 in a DOS session PROVIDED you
are running either driver as listed below:

    1. VideoLogic Apocalypse drivers v4.0.0a or later
    2. Matrox M3D drivers v4.0.0a or later
    3. PowerVR v4.0.0 or later

You will find included two short cuts that are set-up already to run the
PowerVR version of Tomb Raider UB. These are named "PowerVR PCX2 Tomb
Raider UB" and "PowerVR PCX1 Tomb Raider UB". Just double click the
short cut for your PowerVR board.

If you have installed Tomb Raider in a directory other than 'C:\TOMBRAID'
then you can modify the short cuts as follows:

For example if your Tomb Raider is installed in your D drive, i.e. D:\TOMBRAID
    1. Right Click the "PowerVR PCX2 Tomb Raider UB" icon if you have PCX2
(or "PowerVR PCX1 Tomb Raider UB" if you have PCX1)
    2. Click "Properties"
    3. Click the "Program" tab
    4. Change the "cmd line" line to D:\TOMBRAID\TRUBPCX2.EXE
    5. Change the "Working" line to D:\TOMBRAID
    6. Click "OK"

If you have enabled Auto Insert Notification for your CD-ROM drive in
Windows 95, when you insert your Tomb Raider CD, Windows 95 will autorun
the Tomb Raider version which you have originally installed with the CD.
To run Tomb Raider with this PowerVR patch please do the following when
Tomb Raider autoplays:
1. In Tomb Raider Setup menu, choose "Exit".
    2. Double click the short cut for your PowerVR board.

NOTE: If you use "Alt-Enter", "Alt-Tab" or the "Windows" key to switch
between Tomb Raider and Windows 95, your system may become unstable and
not be able to switch back from Windows 95 to Tomb Raider. Please avoid
switching between Tomb Raider and Windows 95 when playing the game.

2. Running under DOS.
---------------------
Note that it is important to have your CD installed for operation under DOS.
This will mean you should have entries for a CD driver in CONFIG.SYS and
that you should be using MSCDEX in AUTOEXEC.BAT.

To run Tomb Raider, change to your Tomb Raider directory and then:
If you have PCX1, run "trubpcx1"
If you have PCX2, run "trubpcx2"

3. Test the software version first.
-----------------------------------
If the software version, TOMBUB.EXE, doesn't run then neither
will the PowerVR version! If you have only downloaded the PowerVR Demo
version and you are having problems, download and check the software
version operates correctly under DOS and not just in a "DOS Box".

4. Check the audio set-up.
--------------------------
If the audio is not correctly set up, then the movies will not
play correctly. Please note that the set-up for the sound card may
be different depending on whether windows has been run or not. Check
the settings with the Tomb Raider SETUP.EXE program.

5. PCX1/PCX2 support.
---------------------
There are two Tomb Raider UB executables: TRUBPCX1.EXE for earlier
PowerVR cards with the PCX1 chip (e.g. Apocalypse 3D,or NEC PC3D Engine)
and TRUBPCX2.EXE for those with PCX2 (e.g. Apocalypse 3Dx or Apocalypse 5D).
Either program will inform the user if the wrong one has been run.

6. Using SciTech UNIVBE.
------------------------
The PowerVR Tomb Raider uses the VESA 2.0 graphics card BIOS standard.
Most modern cards come with this. However, for cards which do not,
the game uses SciTech's UNIVBE technology to supply a VESA 2.0 BIOS.
If the game detects a card that does not supply VESA 2.0, it will run
the UVCONFIG.EXE program which will create a suitable driver.
Although some graphics cards do supply VESA 2.O, they may not provide
very many resolution modes, or they may be causing a problem. You
can override the card's BIOS and use SciTech's, by using the command
line option UVBE.

** WARNING! **
WE *STRONGLY* RECOMMEND THAT YOU TURN OFF YOUR MONITOR DURING THE
SCITECH DISPLAY DOCTOR UNIVBE TEST PHASE.

7. Command line options.
------------------------
The command line options should not normally be needed. They
are case insensitive.
UVBE - Forces the game to use SciTech's UNIVBE VESA 2.0 driver rather
than the one supplied with the card (if any). This may also
increase the number of resolution modes available to the game.
INFO - Prints out Program and Driver version numbers
16 - Forces the game to try to run even if the PC has less
           than 16Mb of memory.
FIX1OSM - If the display appears to be wrapping around, it could
indicate that incorrect information for the display
has been supplied by the BIOS. This attempts to compute the
information in a different way. Note that the 'O' in OSM is for
'Off Screen Memory' and not a number Zero.
JOY - Enables joystick control, however this is currently not
           compatible with Cyrix CPUs.
Example:
           C:\TOMBRAID> TRUBPCX2 UVBE JOY

===============================================
PowerVR Tomb Raider Known Issues. Version 2.31
===============================================
1. Graphics cards with Tseng ET6000 and UVBE option.
The Tseng ET6000 should come with VESA 2.0 support on the board's
BIOS so you should not have to use the UVBE option. However, if you do,
on some systems using the UVBE option causes the program to hang.
An interrupt clash is suspected.

2. Changing 2D Graphics Cards.
If the UVCONFIG.EXE has been used to create a VESA 2.0 driver for your
graphics card, then changing the graphics card may confuse the driver
software. If this appears to be the case, we suggest deleting
UVCONFIG.DRV and UVCONFIG.DAT in the Tomb Raider directory. This will
force the game to regenerate driver information.

3. Black Screen on Exit.
Some systems may not return you to a normal DOS prompt. You are still
in DOS - it is just the graphics mode has not been restored. To clear
the screen type 'mode co80' and hit return.

4. Using saved games between the software and PowerVR versions.
Saved games between the PowerVR and software versions are not compatible.
You will not be able to load the games from the other version.

5. Joystick support.
Joystick support does not work on some non-Pentium CPUs.

6. Running Multiple Copies.
When running under Windows it is possible to run two copies. This
will not work very well. Do not try to run two copies of Tomb Raider
at the same time.

7. Other PowerVR Applications
Close other PowerVR applications before running Tomb Raider for optimal
performance.

8. UNIVBE not running.
You must delete any older files associated with UNIVBE before installing
this version. This version has new UNIVBE support and the files it
generates must be created again.

9. Sorting of polygons incorrectly.
Many of the cases will be seen in the software version as well. As
many of these have been removed as possible.

10. Corruption of Screen after Quitting.
The UNIVBE drivers may interfere with the Windows 2D graphics drivers.
To solve this you can change the Windows screen resolution or
reboot the machine.

11. "SGL could not setup a valid video mode...?"
It is possible that the 2D Graphics Card is not fully supporting VESA 2.0.
Adding the UVBE option to the command line should fix this.

12. The game quits with an "Unknown UNIVBE Error"
UVCONFIG.EXE creates the files UNIVBE.DRV and UVCONFIG.DAT when it is
run. These are used by the program. If you experience the game quitting
with the error: "Unknown UNIVBE Error". These files may have been deleted.
You will have to recreate them again, by re-running UVCONFIG.EXE. This
time make these files read only before you start the game.
