I2O RAID Component for RAID Agent i2oRAID.dll 1.0.4.53 (Build 53)

============
Installation
============

Make sure you have installed the SuperTrak I2O Driver
before installing the utlility. The driver is provided
on a separate diskette, and will enable Windows NT to
recognize the SuperTrak RAID Array as a disk device.

To Install the various SuperCheck components, run the
setup.exe from the first disk. This will bring up a selection
screen to pick the component to install. You can use the
mouse, or the arrow keys to step through the selection.

=========================
What to install and Where
=========================

All Scenarios
-------------
1) Make Sure that TCP/IP is installed on the system(s). This
can be done using the Windows NT CDROM, and the Control Panel->Network applet.
2) If the system is on a LAN or WAN, use the IP address for
which your TCP/IP is already configured to establish connections or
use IP address 127.0.0.1 for all your TCP/IP configurations.
This address will allow all TCP/IP requests to remain within the system.
3) Install the I2O RAID component for the utility on the SuperTrak system.
4) Install the Promise RAID Agent on the SuperTrak system.
5) Reboot the system AFTER all software components have been installed
in order to activate any installed NT services.

To access a SuperTrak system locally
------------------------------------
1) Install the Promise RAID server onto this system.
2) Install the Monitoring Utility onto this system.
When Connecting to the Message Server from the Monitoring Utility, specify
the local TCP/IP address (either 127.0.0.1, or the specific IP address
    of the machine).

To access a SuperTrak system remotely on a LAN
----------------------------------------------
1) Install the Promise RAID server on to one or more systems on the LAN.
The system(s) chosen for the Promise RAID server may include a SuperTrak
station, an independent station on the LAN, or a network server for the LAN.
All Message Agents connected on this LAN will be visible from each instance
    of the Promise RAID server.
2) Install the Monitoring utility onto each LAN station from which
the SuperTrak system should be configurable. When you begin SuperCheck, you
will need to add new Message Servers for each Promise RAID server installed
in step 1 for which you wish to access.

To access a SuperTrak system remotely on a WAN
----------------------------------------------
1) Install a Promise RAID server onto one or more systems on the LAN.
The system(s) chosen for the Promise RAID server may include a SuperTrak
station, an independent station on the LAN, or a network server for the LAN.
All Message Agents connected on this LAN will be visible from each instance
    of the Promise RAID server.
2) Install the Monitoring utility on to each WAN station where the SuperTrak
system will be configured. When you begin SuperCheck, you will need to add
new Message Servers for each Promise RAID server installed in step 1 that
you wish to access. To do this, you will need to specify the server's IP address.
3) If the WAN to which the Monitoring utility will be connected has any firewall
protection measures, you must open the IP address for the systems containing
the Promise RAID servers in order to connect to them over WAN. TCP/IP port number
711 is used by the Server to accept in-bound connections from the Monitoring
    Utility.

Getting Around the SuperCheck Monitoring Utility
================================================

SuperCheck permits Array Configuration, Maintenance, and Administration
of SuperTrak Hardware. User Accounts are created with specific permissions that
lets users log in and Monitor or Administer the System. The software includes
on-line help, which can be accessed anytime using the F1 key, or the Help Menu.

Basic Operations
----------------

Login - Select Agent item, double click to log in with username and password

Create Array - Select IOP->New->Array, Select RAID Level then drag and
drop drives into Array item, or into detail view. Push
Commit Button to perform the operation.

Delete Array - Select the array to delete, press the delete key or right click
               for delete option in Menu.

View Events - To see the history of the events logged by the RAID Hardware,
select IOP item, right click for Read Events. This will bring
up the Event browser to view the event log. Events include
drive failures, new drives added, maintenance activities
(synchronize, rebuild), array creation/deletion etc. Event Log
can be saved to a file and printed for reference.

Synchronize/Rebuild - Select Array (for Synchronize) or Drive (for Rebuild),
right click to initiate the maintenance command.

Change Cache Options - Select IOP, in the content view cache options
will be displayed. The values changed from here are
flush timer, Dirty Threshold start, and Dirty Threshold end.
Select Array, in content view the options selectable
are Read Cache (ON/OFF), Write Cache (ON/WriteBack/WriteThru),
		ReadAhead Mode, and ReadAhead Range.

View Cache Statistics - Select Array, in the content view cache performance
statistics, such as read/write access, read/write cache hits,
and read/write partial hits will be displayed. The numbers
displayed can be reset to zero, to begin collecting statistics again.

NOTE: The following operations cannot be performed remotely, for security
reasons. The Monitoring utility has to be running on the system containing the
SuperTrak Hardware (MessageAgent, I2ORAID component) to perform
the following functions

	  1. Create/Delete Array
	  2. Rebuild/Synchronize Array
	  3. Abort/Pause while Rebuild/Synchronize in progress.
	  4. Change Cache Settings
