You will then need to reboot your system from a virus-free, bootable diskette and then use the provided program to remove the virus. If you are using an NTFS system, copy first this program into a floppy before rebooting. After removing the virus, restart setup. For detailed instructions, see the following: 1. Turn off or shut down the computer. If you are using an NTFS system, copy first PCSCAN.EXE into a floppy. 2. Insert a write-protected, non-infected system diskette into the A: drive. Make sure the system files on the diskette correspond to the same version of the operating system that is installed on the hard drive. 3. Turn on the computer. After your system boots, a command prompt should appear. 4. Change to the C:\PCSCAN.TMP directory (or A: if you¡¦ve copied the file to a floppy) and type PCSCAN A:, then press the Enter key. If PCSCAN reports finding a virus in memory, the system diskette you booted from is infected with that virus. Please obtain a different system diskette (do not make one on the infected system), then restart from step 1. 5. If performing step 4 did not produce a virus, type PCSCAN /P, then press the Enter key.If PCSCAN finds a virus in the boot sector, press C to clean the virus or follow the directions on the screen. When the program asks if you want to back up the hard drive partition, place a blank formatted diskette in the A: drive, then press the Enter key. When the partition has been backed up, remove the diskette and type PCSCAN /P, followed by pressing the Enter key. If no viruses are found, go to step 7. If the virus is still present, restart from step 1. 6. If PCSCAN /P did not detect a virus, type PCSCAN C:, then press Enter. If PCSCAN finds a virus, follow the directions on the screen to clean the virus. After the command prompt re-appears, type PCSCAN C: and press Enter again. If no viruses are found, go to step 7. If the virus is still present, restart from step 1. 7. Remove any diskettes from the floppy drives, reboot the computer, and restart setup. For information on how to use PCSCAN.EXE, type PCSCAN at the command prompt without any parameters. Information on the available parameters and command format will then be displayed on the screen. 1.6 Compatibility issues Norton Tools: If you installed PC-cillin NT into your system and then try to install Norton Tools, it will cause compatibility problems. Please install first NTtools or after installing NTTools, check the PC-cillin NT Real-Time Scan service status. 1.7 Pattern File Updates If you cannot start the modem or you get a " Handshake error " on the Update Pattern page when downloading via BBS, set the initialization string ( as required by your modem ) on the Update Option page. 1.9 Technical Support Internet Trend customer support information for PC-cillin 97 and other products is available on the Internet by Anonymous FTP, and for viewing or downloading on the World Wide Web.
