Contents of this folder
-----------------------
This folder contains the Serial MIDI Driver Ver.2.1 for Windows 95.

The contents of this folder are as follows;

- - DISK1:   The installer of the Serial MIDI Driver Ver.2.1 for Windows 95
- - IBMUS95: The MIDI driver for Windows 95 running on IBM PC/AT and compatible 
             computers.
- - UNINSTE: The uninstaller of the serial MIDI driver for Windows3.1

The [IBMUS95] folder contains the following two files:
- - RDSMID95.DRV:  Basic serial port driver
- - RDSMID95.INF:  Setup file for Windows 95


How to Install the Roland Serial MIDI Driver - 1 -
--------------------------------------------------
Normally, open "SETUP.EXE" in the [DISK1] folder and proceed with the 
installation according to the instructions on the screen.

You must make Serial MIDI Driver settings during the installation procedure.
Please refer to the following.

> [Select Port] dialog
Choose the COM port you want to use as the serial port connecting to the sound 
generator.

> [Select MIDI OUT Port Number] dialog
Placing a check in the "Use two MIDI OUT Ports" checkbox causes two
MIDI OUT ports to be recognized.  This lets you use a sequencer which
supports multiple ports to enjoy 32-part performances using just a single
serial cable.  A sound module which supports 32 parts, such as the SC-88Pro, 
SC-88STPro, SK-88Pro, SC-88VL or SC-88 series, is required for 32-part 
performances.


How to Install the Roland Serial MIDI Drivers - 2 -
---------------------------------------------------
If you can't install the driver by "How to Install the Roland Serial MIDI 
Driver - 1 -", please install by the following steps.

Before installing the serial MIDI driver, you should remove (uninstall)
the serial MIDI driver for Windows 3.1 from your system.

NOTE: Even If the serial MIDI driver for Windows3.1 is not installed on your 
      system, please take the following steps.

1.  Start up Windows 95.

2.  Insert the disk into the drive.

3.  Click the [Start] button, and then click  [Run...].  The [Run] dialog box
    will be displayed.

4.  In the [Open] text box, enter "A:\RSDRV21\UNINSTE\UNINSTAL" (if you are 
    using drive D, enter "D:\RSDRV21\UNINSTE\UNINSTAL" instead).  

5.  Click  [OK].
    The uninstaller starts up.

6.  Follow the instructions on the screen.
    If you see the message to restart the computer, then click [OK].  
    The computer starts up.  

Now, it is ready for installing the driver.

7.  Open the Control Panel and double-click "Add New Hardware".

8.  Select "No" in response to "Do you want Windows to search for your new 
    hardware?", then click "Next".

9.  Select "Sound, video and game controllers",
    then click "Next".

10. Click  the "Have Disk..." button, then insert the disk into the drive
    and choose the driver that corresponds to your computer.

    Example:  "A:\RSDRV21\IBMUS95" 

11. In the "Select Device" dialog box, select "Roland Serial MIDI Driver for 
    Windows 95."

12. In the "Add New Hardware Wizard" dialog box, click "Finish".

13. In the "Roland Serial MIDI Driver Setting Dialog" (see below), make the 
    appropriate settings for your computer, then restart Windows 95.

* Before attempting playback with an application such as the Media Player,
  first go into the Control Panel and select "Multimedia," select the "MIDI"
  tab, and select the serial driver for "Single instrument".



Explanations of the "Roland Serial MIDI Driver Setting Dialog"
--------------------------------------------------------------
The "Roland Serial MIDI Driver Setting Dialog" can be used to make the 
following settings:
- - COM port to be used
- - Baud rate to be used
- - Switching between two MIDI OUT ports
- - Switching CTS/RTS flow control on or off

> About the COM port to be used
Choose a COM port corresponding to the serial port connected to your sound
module.

> Baud rate to be used
For an IBM PC/AT compatible computer:  Set to PC-2
For some IBM PC/AT compatible computers, however, PC-1 can also be selected.
Selecting PC-1, you can get more stable performance.
"Computer Switch" on your sound module's rear panel must be set to a
corresponding position. If you change the setting of the switch, you need to
turn off and on your sound module.

* A few of IBM PC/AT compatible computers cannot play correctly using PC-1.

> About switching between two MIDI OUT ports
Placing a check in the "Activate Two MIDI OUT Ports" checkbox causes two
MIDI OUT ports to be recognized.  This lets you use a sequencer which
supports multiple ports to enjoy 32-part performances using just a single
serial cable.  A sound module which supports 32 parts, such as the SC-88Pro, 
SC-88STPro, SK-88Pro, SC-88VL or SC-88 series, is required for 32-part 
performances.

* This checkbox activated, some computers cannot play correctly using PC-2.
Select PC-1, you can get the stable performance.

> About switching CTS/RTS flow control on or off
If your sound module supports CTS/RTS flow control, placing a check in the
"Activate CTS/RTS Flow Control" checkbox prevents the data communication
between your computer and sound module from errors.
