Remote booting under the RPL environment

     Booting procedure:
      - The system boots from Drive A if a bootable disk is inserted. If not,
the system checks whether or not there is a hard disk. If there is no
bootable hard disk, the system boots from the network. If there is a
hard disk, the ROM asks "Boot from network (Y/N) ?". Type Y to boot
from the network, and N to boot from the hard disk.

     Supported servers:
      - NetWare RPL Server
. The system boots from a NetWare RPL Server.

      - IBM LAN Server 3.0
. The system boots from an IBM LAN Server 3.0.

      - IBM LAN Server 4.0
. The system boots from an IBM LAN Server 4.0.

      - MS LAN MAN Server
. The system boots from an MS LAN MAN Server.

      - MS NT 3.5/3.51 Server
. The system boots from an MS NT3.5/3.51 Server.

      - DEC Pathwork
. The system boots from DEC Pathwork.

      - The first available server
. The system boots from any server on the network that responds first.

    Boot ROM Messages

After starting the Boot ROM, the following message appears to display
      D-Link's trademarks:

                D-Link ..........

The Boot ROM then checks whether or not Drive A is bootable. If not,
it then checks for the hard disk.

If the hard disk exists, the following message appears:

                Boot from network (y/n) ?

Typing Y to boot from the network, and N to boot from the hard disk.

If you type "y", the system searches for any RPL servers
listed below, and boot from it.

. NetWare Server with RPL protocol
                . IBM LAN Server 3.0
                . IBM LAN Server 4.0
                . MS LANMAN
. MS NT 3.5 Advance Server

 Troubleshooting

If the remote boot function does not work, check the following:
. Check that the boot ROM is properly installed.
. Check that the boot ROM address does NOT conflict with other devices.
. Restart your system by turning it off and then back on again.
. If it still does not work, contact your local dealer.

If the IBM LAN SERVER fails, check the following:
. Check that the LAN SERVER network started successfully.
. Check that the LAN SERVER supports the remote boot function.
. Check that the machine's ID has been created.
. Check that the RPL server has been created.
. For more information, please refer to the IBM LAN SERVER manual.

If the NetWare RPL boot server fails, check the following:
. Check that the NetWare server is on-line.
. Check that the adapter is installed properly.
. Check that the NetWare server supports the RPL and IPX interface.
. Check that the NetWare server supports the Ethernet_802.2 frame type.
. Load the drivers as follows:

                :LOAD xxx.LAN frame=ethernet_802.2
                :LOAD RPL.NLM
                :BIND IPX to xxx.LAN net=yyy
                :BIND RPL to xxx.LAN

NOTE: The NetWare RPL only supports the Ethernet_802.2 frame type

. If the problem still persists, contact your local dealer.

If remote booting from a server fails, check the following:
. Check that the boot volume supports the bootable function.

If MS LANMAN fails, check the following:
. Check that the LANMAN network started successfully.
. Check that LANMAN supports the remote boot function.
. Check that the remote boot configuration for new adapters are
        set correctly.
. Check that the machine ID has been created.
. Check that the IPL server has been created.
. For more information, please refer to the MS LANMAN manual.
